HOUSTON — Fresh off an impressive run on the court, LOVB Houston is serving up its next big move off of it.

League One Volleyball (LOVB) has officially announced that its Houston-based pro team will undergo a major rebranding project. For the first time since the organization's inception, the franchise is shifting away from its generic placeholder name to adopt a distinct, community-driven identity.

To ensure the new look captures the heart of the city, leadership isn't just handing the keys over to a marketing firm. Instead, they are directly crowdsourcing the evolution of the club from the people who live and breathe the sport: the fans and the players.

Leadership and Local Roots

The rebrand is being spearheaded by LOVB Houston Chair and Alternate Governor Hannah McNair alongside Chief Business Officer Lisa Walker. The initiative marks a deeper investment into the Houston sports landscape following Lone Star Sports & Entertainment’s (an affiliate of the NFL's Houston Texans) acquisition of the team late last year.

"Today marks an exciting new chapter for our organization, our athletes and our fans," McNair said. "I recently had the opportunity to meet with our incredible athletes to hear their thoughts on what they would like to see in a team name. Their feedback is an important part of this process as we want to create a brand that feels authentic, meaningful and representative of who they are every time they step on the court."

Walker echoed that sentiment, emphasizing that the best brands are built through collaboration. "As we continue building professional volleyball in Houston, we want our identity to reflect the passion, energy and drive of the people who call this city home. This is their team."

Power to the People: The Final Five Names

Up until now, teams across the league have operated under standardized municipal banners (like "LOVB Houston") with abstract typographic logos. The rebrand marks a transition toward traditional, rally-worthy team nicknames.

Fans can officially cast their votes for one of five potential names that tie directly back to the culture, attitude, and pride of Space City:

  • Houston Hype

  • Houston Halo

  • Houston Heights

  • Houston Hive

  • Houston Charge

Beyond the public voting poll, the front office is executing a thorough community-first deep dive. The organization will be rolling out targeted surveys to supporter groups, as well as current and former players, to distill what the community truly wants from the franchise's visual future.

Anchoring a Volleyball Boom

The decision to establish a permanent, distinct identity aligns with the exploding popularity of volleyball in Texas. LOVB's unique "community-up" model directly links its professional teams to massive grassroots networks. In Houston, that pipeline is anchored by the powerhouse junior club Houston Skyline, which trains more than 1,300 youth athletes across the metropolitan area.

By establishing a definitive brand name, the front office aims to give those young athletes and the city's growing fan base a cohesive identity to rally behind. With a star-studded pro roster featuring Olympic medalists like Jordan Thompson and Micha Hancock, the rebrand ensures that Houston's identity on the national stage will look just as fierce as its play on the hardwood.

How to Vote: Houston fans can get involved and cast their official vote for the new team name by visiting the official team channels or submitting their favorite choice via the Lone Star Sports & Entertainment portal at web.lsse.net/h-town-faves-lovb.
