Houston-- All eyes on HTown! She hasn’t let us down. We have given visitors a few seasons, diverse
offering for their pallets, and just enough traffic to let them know we are already full. We
introduced them to our one true BFF, the AC. Oh yeah and one of the best slates of World Cup
games the tournament has seen thus far.
The fans of these cities have represented their countries well. Its literally like they have come to
show America how to go outside again. It’s been joy on top of joy being displayed. You see
community at the forefront in every facet. I think half of the people in these country marches to
the stadium are locals joining in to support. The joy in the simple celebration of humanity is
bringing vibes all throughout North America. I think Houston is setting the bar personally.
The matches have run the gambit of possibilities. You have had a glimpse at one of the favorites
to win it all in Germany! You had a 4k view of Portugal with Ronaldo on the pitch being stalled
by the DR Congo. With the week being capped off by the Oranje dominance. They took over the
streets first with the parade. They didn’t take their foot off the gas when they got inside the
arena.
Speaking of arenas. NRG has become a world-renowned phenomenon. From the AC to the sight
lines. It’s has been a gush fest for our beloved stadium. I guess no one has told the visitors we
are currently trying to get it shutdown to build a new. I believe the saying goes, ”one man trash is
another man’s treasure.” As a Houstonian it has been humbling to see the love for the Arena. It
has also been heartening to see the welcoming energy from Houstonians for our visitors as well.
The city is doing it’s Big One and it’s just getting started. All roads lead to NY/NJ for the
championship. In between that time Houston will have a hand in creating the excitement
around this world-class tournament. Houston won’t let us down. When this story is written
about this World Cup, the chapter about Houston will reflect the uniqueness and community
grace that is necessary for us all.
