Space Cowboys win back-to-back one-run games against Reno to extend winning streak to nine straight


Sugar Land continued their impressive winning streak with wins on Thursday and Friday against the Reno Aces to improve to 25-18 on the season. After a walk-off win in Thursday’s game, the Space Cowboys managed to hold on to an early lead and have won four straight against the Aces.

After a full nine-inning rubber match between the Space Cowboys and the Aces, Sugar Land’s left fielder Tommy Sacco Jr. delivered a clutch single in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring shortstop Jesus Bastidas to win the game on Thursday, May 15, at Constellation Field.


Sacco Jr. and Bastidas combined for four of the five hits the Space Cowboys recorded and delivered in the final to take a 1-0 victory and win their third straight game over the Reno Aces.


Space Cowboys pitcher Brandon Walter started the game with four shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five. 


Relief pitchers Rhett Kouba and Jayden Murray followed with another combined four scoreless innings. Kouba allowed four walks, but pitched out of the jam and only gave up one hit. Murray followed without allowing a hit or a walk and struck out three batters.


Right-handed pitcher Nick Hernandez slammed the door shut on the Aces as he threw two scoreless innings late in the game, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two. With his clutch performance, Hernandez earned his first win of the season and led the way to the Space Cowboys' walkoff victory.



Sugar Land holds onto early lead in 5-4 victory over the Aces


The Space Cowboys jumped out to an early lead over the Aces in Friday’s game and were able to hold on to win in a close 5-4 victory at Constellation Field.


Reno started the game off hot in the second inning with first baseman Jesus Valdez crushing an RBI double to left field and scoring center fielder Cristian Pache to take an early 1-0 lead.


Bastidas answered right back by smashing his sixth homer of the season to center field in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game.


The Space Cowboys furthered their lead in the third inning with an RBI groundout by center fielder Jacob Melton, which scored left fielder Quincy Hamilton.


Catcher Joe Hudson doubled in the fourth inning, scoring designated hitter Luis Guilorme and Sacco Jr. to take a 4-1 lead. 


A fielding error in the bottom of the fifth by third baseman Blaze Alexander allowed Milton to score, and the Space Cowboys' lead extended to 5-1.


Reno struck back in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a walk and a double by left fielder Jake McCarthy to cut the lead to just one run.


The Space Cowboys trio of relief pitchers: Logan VanWey, Nick Robertson and Luis Contreras combined for 3.1 scoreless innings and held on to the win for Sugar Land.


With his clutch last inning, Contreras earned the save by striking out one batter and allowing no hits.


Starting pitcher Aaron Brown recorded his first win of the season for the Space Cowboys and pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out seven batters in his outing.
