Shine On Houston!

The glow from downtown Houston lit up the night. However, the Houston Hall of Fame
nominees shined on the world stage with Houston in their hearts.

One has to be impressed with the impact that Houston has had on the sports world as a whole.
We honored world class athletes and one coach whose motto has reshaped how we look at
those who make it the summit of their perspective sport. "Never underestimate the heart of
a champion " Rudy Tomjanovich said. He along with Mary Lou Retton, and Carl Lewis were all
enshrined into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame. Transcending, record breaking, and world
standard setting all in their own right.

The ceremony was as elegant as it it gets. Again showcasing the high character and high
quality individuals who represent this city through sport. With the Astros situation that might
bring jokes. But some blemishes make picture perfect. There are generations of steller
representation for this city and every year the HCSA puts on this award ceremony they display
it. Brothers in Arms is a prime example. Moon, Ware, Young and Watson represent hardworking
and determination on so many levels. They were honored to provide three young recipients of
the scholarships with a bit of a boost into their next phase in life as others had provided them. In
some form or fashion.

The award recipients and presenters were second to none. Mrs. Patty Mills must be
commended once again for putting together an exemplary event. Along with the HCSA for
recognizing that Houston's sports history deserves this. Every year reminds me, enlightens me,
and heightens my respect for Houston's excellence in sports tradition.
