UH loss to Memphis in AAC Championship Game

Houston Cougars Fall to Memphis in AAC Championship Game

The Houston Cougars men's basketball team fell to the Memphis Tigers 75-65 in the American Athletic Conference championship game on Sunday. The Cougars, who were ranked No. 1 in the country, were without star guard Marcus Sasser, who was injured in the first half of Saturday's semifinal win over Cincinnati.

Memphis jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 20 points in the first half. The Cougars made a run in the second half, but could never get closer than 10 points.

Davis led all scorers with 31 points for Memphis, while DeAndre Williams added 16 points and 13 rebounds. For Houston, Shead had 15 points and Sasser added 10 points in his return from injury.

The loss snapped Houston's 13-game winning streak and ended their hopes of an undefeated season. Memphis, on the other hand, earned the AAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win.

Sasser's injury a major blow to Cougars

Sasser's injury was a major blow to the Cougars. He is the team's leading scorer and one of their best all-around players. Without him, Houston was not able to get into a rhythm on offense.

Memphis took advantage of Sasser's absence and jumped out to an early lead. The Tigers were able to get to the basket at will and get easy points in the paint.

The Cougars made a run in the second half, but it was too little, too late. They could never get closer than 10 points and Memphis held on for the win.
