Space City Scuffle: Houston Dynamo defeat LA Galaxy 1-0

The Houston Dynamo are starting to become one of the biggest threats in the MLS this season.

The Dynamo have been on a hot streak when it comes to their schedule. Under the guidance of Head coach Ben Olsen, the Dynamo have started a three-game winning streak on their schedule, beating teams like the NE Revolution and Sporting KC.

In order to progress further in the Western Conference standings, the Dynamo take on the LA Galaxy at home on a championship anniversary night. While the Galaxy may not be a highly placed team in the West, they can still force an upset.

With conference placements on the line, can the Dynamo beat the Galaxy to take first place in the West?

LA Galaxy game recap

To start off the first half, the Dynamo begin the game with possession of the ball, but don't have much when it comes to offensive pressure. The Galaxy's defense put many attackers in awkward spots, allowing LA to take back control of the ball and move it down the pitch.

However, after a penalty kick from Guilherme, the Dynamo took the lead 21 minutes into the game. LA Galaxy tried to bounce back from their deficit in the first half, but went into halftime unable to tie the game.

The second half would follow the same tempo as the first half, and didn't have much when it came to goals. The Dynamo wouldn't allow the Galaxy to get deep into their side of the pitch, and pushed back any advances the Galaxy would have.

The game would end with the Dynamo winning over the Galaxy 1-0. The Dynamo would be able to win on a historic night at Shell Energy Stadium, holding a ceremony for the 2006 MLS Cup championship roster during halftime.

With their win over the Galaxy, the Dynamo now take first place in the Western Conference of the MLS beating out other championship contenders like the Vancouver Whitecaps and LAFC. The Dynamo have officially put themselves on the biggest pedestal in the MLS.

What's next?

The Dynamo look onward to a big game on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps, and that game will decide who takes first place in the West. The Dynamo can secure their first-place spot if they beat the Whitecaps, but Vancouver will be a major test to see if this team is playoff-ready.

While their first-place spot could be good for now, the Dynamo have already proven to be one of the best teams in the MLS. With their current momentum and confidence, the Dynamo could be the biggest team to follow heading into the playoffs.
