Destiny's Double Date

It's surreal to think the passing of the torch in Futbol may have occurred way before the final match on Sunday. The match on Championship Sunday was simply the Universe breaking the news to us regular people about a decision that the Universe had already  decided on more than a decade ago. The flame lives on. The torch has been passed.

The match was a site to see. The torch was not just passed, it was handed over in a full circle moment that felt like it was written by the stars. The overwhelming forward pressure by Spain met by the immovable wall of the Argentine defense. Moment after moment in the balance. Would Messi deliver one more time or would it be the new generations coming out party? I can only imagine how the fans in each of their respective countries survived the match.

It was cinematic, pure adrenaline! Yamal showing zero fear, all gas no brakes. Messi lurking like a shark, stalking the moment. The world's game on the world stage in one of the most iconic venues. History in the balance and they gave all that they had. The people will mark this inflection point and the impact on the game of futbol.

As a American I know I witnessed the greatest WorldCup tournament to date. The GOAT vs the Young Phenom after a world tour around North America. From the logistics to the various settings for games, it was as if this tournament was made to be played in the U.S. from an entertainment perspective.  It's the competitive perspective where the U.S. still have plenty work to do. The level of excellence and hope Lamine and Messi displayed will inspire for generations.
