Despite losing to the USMNT, Saudi Arabia is making a run for the trophy. The 2025 Gold Cup quarterfinals are about to deliver a seriously epic matchup! We're talking about a historic first-ever Gold Cup showdown between CONCACAF big shot Mexico and Asian powerhouse Saudi Arabia. This is easily one of the most intriguing games of the whole tournament.
What makes it even cooler? It's Saudi Arabia's debut in the knockout rounds as a guest team, which adds a whole new level of excitement to the championship.
For Mexico, the pressure is definitely on. "El Tri" is expected to not just win, but to dominate this match as they chase their ninth Gold Cup title. However, it hasn't been a walk in the park for them so far; they've had some close calls and even played to a scoreless draw against Costa Rica in their last group stage game.
On the flip side, Saudi Arabia is coming into these quarterfinals with absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. They're looking to build on their impressive 2022 World Cup performance and prove they totally deserve that Gold Cup invitation.
With a spot in the semifinals on the line and national pride at stake, this never-before-seen clash between two different football cultures promises tons of drama, intensity, and maybe even a Gold Cup moment we'll be talking about for years!
