HOUSTON (Sunday, July 24, 2022) – Houston Dynamo 2 remain unbeaten at AVEVA Stadium after their 1-0 triumph over Minnesota United FC 2 earlier today. This was Houston’s seventh shutout of the season and Dynamo 2 improved their record at AVEVA Stadium to 5-0-0.

Dynamo 2 defender Jathan Juarez opened the scoring in the second minute of added time after receiving a pass from midfielder Brooklyn Raines at the edge of the box. Juarez spun away from an MNUFC2 defender and got a shot off from distance that went in the bottom corner of the net. The goal marked the first professional goal of Juarez’s career.

Defensively, Dynamo 2 limited MNUFC2 to nine shots and goalkeeper Michael Nelson tallied his first clean sheet with the team. Nelson finished with three saves this evening and defender Micael led the team with three clearances. Juarez and midfielder Paulo Lima finished tied for the most interceptions tonight at two apiece.

Houston’s first shot on goal came in the 13th minute, as Raines dribbled the ball down the middle of the field before finding defender Mujeeb Murana flying up the right flank. Murana found himself in enough space to get a shot off that was parried away by the MNUFC2 goalkeeper.

Midfielder Isaiah LeFlore took an ambitious shot from outside the 18-yard box in the 19th minute that rattled off the crossbar for what would have been his fourth goal in just three games with Dynamo 2.

Houston produced another threatening chance on goal in the 27th minute, as LeFlore crossed in a ball that found the chest of forward Kyle Edwards. Edwards took one touch and got a shot off on goal that was blocked by MNUFC2.

Forward Beto Avila had a chance to score in the 34th minute, as Juarez received a long ball up the left side of the pitch and worked his way into the middle of the field before passing to Avila, who flicked a shot towards goal that went just wide of the net.

Dynamo 2 is back on the road next Friday, July 29 when they travel north of the border to take on Whitecaps FC 2 at 9:00 p.m. CDT.
