The "Winning Pinning Ceremony": Up Close, Personal, and a Little Pin-ful!
Loooong sigh. We fought hard, we cheered loudly, but when the final whistle blew, the scoreboard made it official: Lone Star College–Houston North took the W in Women’s Volleyball.
Which meant it was time for the main event—and the ultimate consequence.
Enter the "Winning Pinning Ceremony."
The stakes were simple, friendly, and surprisingly fierce: a friendly competitive bet between campus presidents. LSC-University Park’s President Matthew Dempsey and LSC-Houston North’s President Quentin Wright agreed that the losing president would have to wear the winning team’s campus pin with pride (or at least with a good-natured grin).
So, with heavy hearts and big smiles, the pin was handed over, and President Dempsey had to sport the LSC-Houston North pin gear.
Hey, fair is fair! Until next game, Houston North... 🏐
Sportsmanship, Vision, and Big School Spirit
Despite the sting of the loss, the night was a huge victory for students and school spirit across the entire Lone Star College system.
President Quentin Wright took to social media after the game to celebrate the student-athletes, sharing:
"What a fun night! I'm so proud of both teams. These students make all of us proud.
Congratulations to Matthew Dempsey on his vision to bring athletics to Lone Star College–University Park. It's great to see our system giving students the chance to keep playing the sports they love while earning a quality education.
And a friendly challenge to my fellow presidents: I'd love to see a few more pinning ceremonies. 😂"
It’s clear that while the rivalry on the court is real, the shared pride in our students is what really ties LSC together.
