Space Cowboys drop back-to-back games to drop weekend home series 2-1 against Round Rock Express

On Saturday at Constellation Field, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys split the doubleheader with the Round Rock Express. After a dominant showing in game one, a late rally by the Express evened the series at one game apiece. On Sunday, the Express cruised to a 13-0 victory to take two out of the three games over the weekend.

 

Back-to-back home runs in sixth secure 6-1 victory over Round Rock Express

 

The Space Cowboy’s designated hitter Luis Guillorme and left-fielder Tommy Sacco Jr. hit back-to-back blasts in the bottom of the sixth inning to win game one 6-1 over the Round Rock Express.

 

“My first home run here was special, " Sacco Jr. said. “Now we have to flush this game and worry about winning the next.”

 

Despite allowing eight hits, left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon only gave up one earned run and struck out five batters in five innings to earn the win.

 

Pitchers Shawn Dubin and Miguel Castro both tossed a scoreless inning in relief and combined for three strikeouts.

 

Round Rock started out on fire with first baseman Justin Foscue, third baseman Cody Freeman and second baseman Sam Haggerty all recording singles in the first inning. Gordon was able to strike out back-to-back batters to get out of the jam.

 

Shortstop Jesús Bastidas scored the first run for the Space Cowboys in the first inning on a ground ball by second baseman Brice Matthews.

 

In the fourth inning, Sacco Jr. lined a two-run double down the left-field line to score first baseman Collin Price and Matthews.

 

Later in the inning, right-fielder Kenedy Corona recorded an RBI on a ground out to second base and Sacco Jr. scored.

 

Round Rock responded in the top of the fifth with a one-out double by shortstop Ezequiel Duran. With two outs in the inning, Duran scored on an RBI double by third baseman Cody Freeman.

          

With back-to-back homers in the sixth inning and a solid bullpen performance, the Space Cowboys overpowered the Round Rock Express in game one of the series.

 

Round Rock rallies for five runs in seventh inning to defeat Space Cowboys 8-2

 

The Round Rock Express scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to stun the Space Cowboys on their home field and win 8-2.

 

Round Rock jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring in the first and fourth innings both on throwing errors.

 

They extended their lead with a solo shot to center field off the bat of Foscue.

 

The Space Cowboys showed some fight in the fifth inning with a two-run homer from Bastidas to cut the lead 3-2.

 

Although the Space Cowboys came within one run of the lead, their relief pitching let them down in the final inning, giving up five runs on three walks and three hits.

 

Round Rock Express cruises to 13-0 shutout against Space Cowboys

 

Round Rock dominated Sunday’s game scoring 13 runs on 15 hits in a shutout victory over the Space Cowboys.

 

Space Cowboys starting pitcher Aaron Brown recorded the loss for Sugar Land allowing four runs on five hits and only tossed two innings.

 

Round Rock’s pitcher Cole Winn recorded the win, throwing 1.2 innings in relief and allowing no runs or hits.

 

Shortstop Zach Short and right-fielder Shay Whitcomb recorded the only hits of the game for the Space Cowboys.

 

Round Rock’s catcher Chad Wallach, center-fielder Kellen Strahm, right-fielder Trevor Hauver and Duran all recorded a homer in this game to power past the Space Cowboys in Sugar Land.

 

Up next

 

The Space Cowboys head on the road for a five-game series against the Salt Lake Bees on May 6-11. First pitch is scheduled at 7:35 p.m.

 

The next home series will take place May 13-18 against the Reno Aces for a five-game series at Constellation Field.
