Offensive Explosions and Defensive Heroics Define Panthers-Roughnecks Matchup

Michigan's initial score came on an improvised play. Quarterback Danny Etling scrambled out of the pocket, finding Malik Turner open for a 5-yard touchdown throw across his body. The Panthers extended their lead when Xavier Malone's 90-yard punt return set up a 1-yard touchdown catch by Samson Nacua, brother of Rams receiver Puka Nacua.

Houston responded in the second quarter with Jalan McClendon connecting with Keke Chism on a 33-yard seam route for a touchdown. Michigan answered in the second half with another deep pass, as Etling hit Devin Ross for a 35-yard score on third-and-16.

The Panthers' defense then bolstered their lead with an astute play from cornerback Keni-J Lovely. He intercepted McClendon's bubble screen intended for Justin Hall, returning it for a pick-six. Houston managed a late consolation touchdown when McClendon and Hall connected for a 1-yard score with two seconds remaining.
