Dynamo FC hosted Operation Homefront's Back to School event.

The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) hosted Operation Homefront’s annual Back-to-School Brigade® event in partnership with BODYARMOR Sports Drink at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday, July 22.

 

Collaborated and supported by Dynamo and Dash Charities, the Club’s official 501(c)(3), volunteers packed and distributed 200 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to local military families. 

Last year, Operation Homefront distributed 3,120 backpacks in Texas, including 400 in Houston. In its 16^th year, the program aims to distribute its 550,000^th backpack since the program began in 2008, saving families more than $60 million in back-to-school expenses.

 

Military families had the opportunity to participate in activities including interactive soccer stations, face painting, a meet and greet with the Club’s mascot Diesel and an appearance by Houston Dynamo defender Tate Schmitt and Houston Dash midfielder Sophie Hirst who both took pictures with young fans and signed autographs.

The Back-to-School Brigade program helps alleviate the costs of school supplies during what can be a financially stressful season. While everyone is feeling the pinch of inflation, new reports, including reports by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, show that military families are being disproportionately impacted. Frequent deployments and changes in station, along with inflation and tightened budgets takes a huge toll on military families. The Back-to-School Brigade program ensures military children have the resources they need to succeed in school while easing the financial burden felt by their parents. See a full photo gallery HERE
