Daly called up to England National Team for friendly match

HOUSTON (Tuesday, October 13, 2020) – Houston Dash co-captain Rachel Daly was called in to the England Women’s National Team for a friendly match against Germany on Oct. 27, the Football Association announced earlier today.

Daly will join the Lionesses on Sunday, Oct. 18 at St. George’s Park ahead of the international friendly at Brita-Arena in Wiesbaden, Germany. The Dash captain joined the Lionesses last month for a training camp.

The forward is currently on loan with West Ham United FC in the FA Women’s Super League through December 2020. She made her FA WSL debut coming on as a substitute against Tottenham on Sept. 6. After capping her successful summer run with Houston as the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup MVP, Daly scored her first WSL goal on Oct. 7 when West Ham defeated Brighton & Hove Albion in a penalty shootout after tying 2-2.

The forward was a crucial piece of the Dash’s first league title in club history, scoring three goals and providing three assists to earn MVP and Golden Boot honors. Of Houston’s eight goals scored in the tournament, Daly played a role in five, including the assist to midfielder Shea Groom’s insurance goal in the Championship match against Chicago Red Stars. The assist gave Daly the Golden Boot honors after being tied with Groom and North Carolina Courage forward Lynn Williams with three goals

Daly has earned 35 caps for the Lionesses and scored three goals while splitting time as a forward and outside back. She played a key role in England’s semifinal run at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, seeing action in five of their seven matches and starting twice, including in the semifinal against the United States.
