HOUSTON, TX – The roar of TDECU Stadium on Friday, September 12, 2025, wasn't just loud—it was DEAFENING! The University of Houston Cougars delivered a seismic statement to the entire Big 12, dismantling the Colorado Buffaloes with a dominant 36-20 victory in their conference opener!

This wasn't just a win; it was a defining performance, showcasing the Cougars' explosive offense and tenacious defense. The electric atmosphere under the Friday night lights was matched only by the brilliance of the Houston offense, led by a sensational performance from quarterback Conner Weigman!

Weigman, the dynamic junior, had the game of his career, lighting up the field both through the air and on the ground. He torched the Colorado secondary for 222 yards passing and then personally took over the ground game, rushing for a career-high 83 yards and scoring two crucial touchdowns! Every time the Buffaloes tried to claw their way back, Weigman had an answer, extending drives and punching it into the end zone.

The Cougars’ special teams unit also delivered an absolute masterclass. Kicker Ethan Sanchez was an unstoppable force, drilling an incredible five field goals throughout the night, accounting for 15 crucial points and ensuring the Buffs were always chasing more than a single score. From a 52-yard bomb to a chip shot, Sanchez was money, keeping the momentum firmly on the Houston sideline.

Houston jumped out to a strong early lead, showing their intent from the first whistle. While Colorado managed to briefly rally to make it a two-point game late in the first half (16-14), the Coogs refused to fold. The third and fourth quarters belonged entirely to Houston, as they outscored the Buffaloes 20-6 in the second half, pulling away with authority.

Key scoring drives, capped by Weigman's one-yard and seven-yard rushing touchdowns, broke the Buffs' spirit and turned the contest into a runaway. The defense played its part, too, applying constant pressure and making clutch stops when it mattered most, forcing a late-game turnover on downs that sealed the deal.

With this thrilling triumph, the Houston Cougars not only improve to a perfect 3-0 start but also secure their first-ever victory in a Big 12 Conference opener! Coach Willie Fritz’s squad is officially for real, and the rest of the Big 12 has been put on notice.

Next up: The Coogs ride this monumental wave of momentum into a tough road test, but tonight, the city of Houston is celebrating! This Cougars team has grit, fire, and the talent to compete with anyone! GO COOGS!
