HOUSTON (July 29, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC is set to begin Phase One of Leagues Cup 2025 by hosting Liga MX side Tigres UANL today, Tuesday, July 29, at Shell Energy Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 p.m. CT. Tickets are available HERE.

This year's Concacaf-sanctioned competition features an enhanced format, bringing together 36 clubs – 18 from Liga MX and 18 from MLS – in interleague play. The tournament is divided into two rounds: Phase One and the Knockout Rounds.

Phase One: What You Need to Know

During Phase One, each team will play three matches against opponents from the opposing league. Points earned from these matches will contribute to a league-specific table (one for MLS, one for Liga MX). The top four clubs from each league will then advance to the quarterfinals.

There are no draws in Phase One; if a match ends in a tie, it will proceed directly to a penalty shootout. Points are awarded as follows:

  • Regulation Win: 3 points

  • Penalty Shootout Win: 2 points

  • Regulation Draw (loss in shootout): 1 point

The third edition of Leagues Cup will once again determine three qualifiers for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup, with the tournament winner representing the region in FIFA international club competitions.
