Dash Kick-Off Preseason Win against University of Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021) – The Houston Dash defeated the University of Texas Women’s Soccer team 5-0 earlier this afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.

This was the first preseason game for the Dash and forward Veronica Latsko scored the first goal of the contest after she capitalized on an unfortunate clearance from Longhorn goalkeeper Savannah Madden. The ball fell to Latsko in the 17th minute and the forward beat the keeper for the first of her two goals this afternoon.

Forward Maegan Rosa scored five minutes later after her run into the box created space to connect with midfielder Shea Groom’s cross. Groom served as the captain today and this was the first time the Texas A&M alum wore the armband for the team.

The third goal of the game came at the 25th minute when defender Katie Naughton scored off a header, courtesy of a cross from defender Amber Marshall. Five minutes later, Houston logged the fourth goal of the game after Latsko beat two defenders in the middle of the box to a cross from midfielder Bri Visalli

The final goal of the game came from midfielder Emily Ogle. The Penn State alum beat two defenders and dribbled around the Texas goalkeeper to score the fifth goal of the game.

Dash goalkeeper Lindsey Harris made her first save of the game in the third minute of the contest after she handled Mackenzie McFarland’s header. Texas’ best opportunity came in the 34th min when midfielder Lexi Missimo dribbled into the box, but her effort went over the bar.

Houston came out attacking in the second half with two close calls in the first five minutes of play. Groom dribbled around a defender in the 46th minute to create a one-on-one duel with Madden. The Texas A&M alum got past the goalkeeper, but her effort was just wide of the left post. Latsko followed up four minutes later with a shot from outside the box that just skipped over the crossbar.
